Fire Suppression
Key Services Provided:
- WSFD has direct fire protection responsibilities on 3.6 million acres of State Trust Land
- WSFD has cooperative fire protection responsibilities on an additional 25.5 million acres of private land
- The State Forester administers the Emergency Fire Suppression Account (EFSA) in which 18 of Wyoming's 23 counties voluntarily participate
- WSFD provides technical assistance relating to all aspects of fire management to Interagency Cooperators and financial assistance to Wyoming's 23 counties and 147 fire departments through federal grants and state appropriated dollars
How Wyoming Residents Benefit:
- Training and organization of Wyoming firefighters increases firefighter and public safety and reduces property and natural resource losses
- The voluntary Emergency Fire Suppression Account (EFSA) provides financial support to the 18 participating counties for large fires beyond their suppression capabilities
